Unbelievably real the Grand Prismatic Spring
This photo of Grand Prismatic Spring is thought to be faked but this place actually does exist! It is a hot spring known as Grand Prismatic Spring located in Yellowstone National Park, Wyoming, USA.
The Grand Prismatic Spring is known for its colors. The Grand Prismatic Spring is the third largest spring in the world. It is called prismatic because of the colors of the spring resembles like the one which looks like when light is passed through a prism i.e. Red, Yellow, Green and blue.
The spring was first discovered by the geological explorers in 1871. The spring is 370 feet wide and is 160 feet in depth. The average temperature of water is 70◦C.
The colorful spring is deceiving and many people think it is a photoshopped image. However there is a scientific reason for the colors of the spring the beautiful colors are produced by micro organisms which grow at the border of the spring.
The water of the spring contains high amount of minerals making it easier for microbial growth. However the center of spring doesn’t have microbial presence. Because the center of the spring has higher temperature which is not suitable for microbial growth. Due to absence of micro organism from the center of the spring the center of the spring appears blue in color.
The color at the center of the spring varies according to seasons. Also the color in the spring is dependent on the amount of chlorophyll and carotenoids.
