Amazing Places- The Socotra island
Socotra island is a group of four island lcoated in the Arabian Sea. The island is part of Yemen.
The main island of Socotra constitutes approximately 95% of land of Archipelgo. The island is loacted 240 km east from Horn of Africa and around 380 km south from Arabian Peninsula. The island is 132 km in length and 50 km wide the total area of the island is 3796 sq.km. Populaiton of the island is around 40000.
The island is known for its unique flora and fauna as many species of plants and animals are present only on Socotra island. The island is very diverse in terms of flora and fauna as Socotra has around 700 endemic species.
Also due to its endemic species the island looks like place from other planet. Wide range of plants and birds are present on the island. Also various species of fishes are endemic to coral reef in Socotra.
Human activities on this island have degraded the environment on this island. Introduction of domestic animals have caused impact on the island environment.
Tourism is offered through cars and mini buses. However now bicycle have been introduced as eco friendly alternative. There were many flights for this island however due to ongoing war all flights to this island have been cancelled.
