The Dangerous Needlefish
Needlefish is a species of fish which lives in shallow ocean water. Some species of needlefish lives in fresh water. This fish is habitant of the north Atlantic ocean.
The size of needlefish varies from 1.2 to 37.4 inches. This fish have a long slender body with narrow jaw with sharp teeth. The sharp jaw of fish can cause some serious injuries.
The juveniles of the needlefish feeds mostly on plankton. The matured fishes eat fish but also feeds on krill, crustaceans and cephalopods.
This fish spends most of the time near to surface of the ocean. The fish is capable of jumping out of the water at the speed up to 60 km/hr.
Needlefish gets excited by artificial light and can cause trouble to fisherman traveling on small boats. As the fish jumps out of the water at a very high speed its sharp beak can cause some severe injuries. Sometimes fisherman get caught into a school of such excited fishes.

Various injuries and deaths have been reported due to this fish. In 1977 a 10 year old boy was killed by this fish after it pierced through his eye and brain. Another case was when a 16 year old Vietnamese boy was stabbed in the heart by the fish. Also one Saudi guy died of a wound from injury to the neck. Many more cases have been reported worldwide about the injuries from this fish.
Needlefish is also kept as aquarium fish because of its small size. But care must be taken while handling it. After all it can still cause injuries.
