Mystery of the Chir Batti (Ghost Light)
Chir Batti means ghost light in Kutchhi -Sindhi language Chir means Ghost and Batti means light. Chir Batti is a light which have been seen in Banni grasslands and marshy areas of Rann of Kutch in Gujarat, India.
Many people have seen this light at night and its color varies from blue, red and yellow. It is mostly seen moving as fireball it can also stay at the same place for a while. For many year local people it has been a normal phenomenon as many people have seen these lights. Some people also reported that these lights were following them.
The light is most commonly seen on dark nights after 8 pm. Some people have also been lost in the desert while following the light in the desert. Some people believe they are light of the ghosts.
A team of local and American ornithologist has also seen these lights apart from them The Indian Border Security Forces have also seen these lights.
Many people have seen these lights but despite of it there is one possible explanation for this phenomenon. The light may be because of oxidation of methane, phosphine and diphosphane. Phosphine and diphosphine mixture gets very easily ignited on contact with oxygen and also presence of methane can also cause fire. These compounds are naturally present in the marshy area and sudden burning of these compounds may cause a flash of light which might be the reason see such lights.
