Haunted Places- Waverly Hills Sanatorium
Waverly Hills Sanatorium is located in Louisville, Kentucky. It is one of the well known haunted places in Kentucky.
During the early 20th century the Waverly Hills Sanatorium was started to treat patients suffering from tuberculosis. During that time no specific medications were available for Tuberculosis.
Its capacity was of around 400 patients. As there was an epidemic of Tuberculosis at that time hundreds of people were rushed into this hospital. But later in 1961 the Sanatorium was closed due to advancement in treatment of Tuberculosis. The drug streptomycin lowered the number of patients there was no need for such hospital anymore. However during the epidemic period over 8000 people died in the Sanatorium.
Later it was again opened in 1962 as medical service center. However for the second opening it was used for treating mentally disturbed and disabled people and also for geriatric patients. It was later closed due to its inefficiency to treat patients.
Today it is a well known haunted place. There are various stories about the haunted Sanatorium. Many paranormal experts believe that the place is haunted. There was also a story which surfaced that a nurse hanged herself in room 502 after she got pregnant and wasn’t married by the owner of sanatorium and later got infected with Tuberculosis and committed suicide.
The sanatorium has been featured on many entertainment shows, documentaries and radio shows. Many paranormal experts also have attempted to find paranormal activities in the sanatorium.
