Beautiful Place – Salar de Uyuni
Salar de Uyuni is the largest salt flat in the world. It is spread around 10582 sq km. It is located at the height of 3656 m in Daniel Campas province in Bolivia.
The Salar plan is the result of prehistoric land transformation due to which it was formed. The unusual appearance of this place is due to transformation of a prehistoric lake.
The salt plans have high concentration of lithium and is one of the largest lithium reserve in the world. Salar de Uyuni is the part of a plateau named Altiplano. The large lithium reserves are used in electric batteries.
Most of the areas in Salar contain brine. Brine is the saturated solution of various salts. The average temperature in Salar de Uyuni is 21°C. However at night temperature falls to -9° C to 5°C.
It is home to various animals and birds. Many people from all over the world come to Salar de Uyuni. There were some hotels in Salar built for tourists due to lack of construction material hotels were made of salt blocks. However there were some environmental issues as waste had to collect manually. Because of which hotel was demolished.
The Train cemetery is a popular destination for tourist in Salar. The train cemetery is the remains of the British mining railway from 1888-1892. However, it was abandoned in 1940s after mining industry collapsed.
It is also a good place for satellite calibration as sky above salar is very clear.
